I think it would be fair to describe myself as a disgruntled commuter. I am required to navigate the services of two different rail companies in order to arrive at my desk, and the risk of issues whilst en route is unacceptably high. My colleagues are subjected to my frequent rants about “If we ran projects in the same way…”. Whilst it’s not reasonable to compare our industry with Britain’s rail companies and, of course, I have no idea of what goes on in the background, the fact is that I have a regular reminder of what it is to not have my expectations met and confusion about lessons not appearing to be learned as mistakes are repeated. Attending the recent PhUSE EU Connect conference in Frankfurt made me realise how proud I am to be part of an organisation that strives to share knowledge of innovation, efficiencies, experiences and process improvements in clinical data science. We know that sometimes things don’t go as well as planned, but learning from these experiences, improving the way things are done and sharing with our colleagues is a good way to gain something positive from a negative. The theme of this year’s conference was Future Forward – and there was much evidence of looking to the future. With that in mind, I introduce to you our amazing new-format Newsletter.
Over on the left-hand side of the page you can navigate to our exciting content. We hear from Michael Harris, the Chair of the EU Connect 2019, in our regular Starter for Ten spot. The US Connect is not far off; and you can catch up with news of what will be happening in Baltimore in February. We have our usual medley of recaps from the Single Day Events that have taken place in the last quarter. Sascha Ahrweiler has contributed a book review; and let’s not forget Kirk’s Korner.
As always, Future Forward members, we love hearing from you. If our new format inspires you, please feel free to get in touch at email@example.com and contribute.
